Prof. J.K. Olabanji was born in Ado-Ekiti on January 22, 1960. He had his primary school education at A.U.D. Primary School, AwoEkiti, and his secondary education at Christ’s School Ado-Ekiti between the year 1974-1979 respectively. He had his university Education at the University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) 1979-1986, where he bagged a Bachelor degree (BSc.) in Health Sciences in the year 1983 and a MBChB degree award in the year 1986. 

   After serving a few years as a Medical officer, partly with the old Ondo State Health Management Board which is comprised of (Ondo &Ekiti), he returned to Ife for his postgraduate training in Surgery in the year 1992 to 1998. He had part of his Senior residency training at UCH, Ibadan and LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos and obtained the Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons.

  He returned to OAUTHC to pioneer his specialty both at the University and at the Hospital, he is still the Unit Head till date. He attained the position of a professor on October 1, 2012. Following that majority of his trainees are Lecturers and Consultants in several Teaching and Specialist Hospitals in the country. He worked and trained at OAUTHC, UCH and LUTH. He had visited several Hospitals in and outside Nigeria. As a BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons) Fellow, he had a stint at St Thomas and Guy’s Hospitals, London, 2010. He did served on many committees both at the Teaching Hospital and in the University.

He was a foundational member and vice chairman of the OAUTHC Anti-Corruption and Transparency monitoring unit (ACTU), an organ of ICPC. He was Deputy CMAC (Chairman Medical Advisory Commitee) from 2010 to 2014, and was made the CMAC in the 2014 through 2018 respectively. This also made him a member of the Governing Board of the Hospital for the period. His term witnessed tremendous peace that had changed the usual turbulent story of OAUTHC as the hotbed of agitations. Thanks also to the warm relationship and good mentoring he enjoyed with the CMD (Chief Medical Director) he served with, Directors who are very dynamic, seasoned and selfless leaders. 

 Prof. J.K. Olabanji was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL on May 14, 2019.
