About Hospital

Welcome To Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital

A law to provide for the establishment, incorporation, constitution, powers and functions of the University of Ado-Ekiti Teaching Hospital (UTH) and Management Board for the Teaching Hospital and for other matters connected therewith was enacted by the House of Assembly of Ekiti State of Nigeria, and signed into law by His Excellency, Engr. Segun Oni on 14th January 2008.

The law provides for the composition of Board, qualification of the Chairman of Board, Tenure of office of members, appointment and function of the Chief Medical Director and other Principal Officers.
Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, (as it was later called) started at the erstwhile location of the State Specialist Hospital in April 2008. The staff, assets and liability of the hospital were inherited. While the inherited staff provided an immediate workforce for the institution, this was not without attendant challenges. The institution also took up the administration of the then Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in 2010.

The College of Medicine of the Ekiti State University (its sister institution) got more attention, leading to recruitment of staff, most of which have corresponding roles to play in EKSUTH.
Despite financial challenges faced since its inception, the institution under the leadership of its founding Chief Medical Director grew to a level that could only be appreciated when compared with its Specialist Hospital days. Upon resumption, the pioneer CMD was one of only two consultants in the Hospital. While noting that the challenges of building a Teaching Hospital from scratch in a resource constrained environment is daunting, it is a great deal that the hospital can now boast of over 60 consultants.
Let us note the Hospital has gone through name changes since the law was established, initially to University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti and later to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

The Hospital currently has its fifth (5th) Board of Management guiding the affairs of the Institution. The Hospital has also undergone a significant level of infrastructural and personnel transformation in recent years.
